Ice Cream Review Acme Valley Mixed Berry

Review

Disclaimer: Acme Valley sent me a complimentary box of 10 ice cream pints to review. Thanks, Acme Valley! While the free pints provide me with the opportunity for this review, Acme Valley has no control over the opinions expressed.

Pint Description From Acme Valley Website: “MIXED BERRY – How many berries? All the berries. – We knew we wanted another berry-centric flavor and couldn’t settle on just one, so we decided to just throw the entire berry basket in! Every lick of our Mixed Berry is bursting with hand-selected blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and raspberries that will show your tastebuds a “berry” good time.”

Acme Valley recommends tempering their pints 10 – 15 minutes. It’s a solid recommendation if you want the best taste. Acme Valley’s ice cream has a dense “stretchy” texture that concentrates flavor—but you can only appreciate that depth of flavor after tempering. Eat it too soon, straight from the freezer, and you will miss out.

The base is purple berry-colored. The flavor is fruity and sweet, subtly, naturally—not overly sweet or syrupy. It’s not a punchy preserves or jam flavor with acidity to it. Instead, it’s mild and refreshing with a dairy note shining through. A generic berry flavor composed of multiple berries—blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries—thoroughly pureed together so that no single berry flavor stands out.

Some brands have trouble with fruit flavors becoming icy because fruits contain a lot of water. And berry flavors present a separate problem—grit from berry seeds. Acme Valley dodged those bullets. This pint is creamy and smooth. So: good quality.

Overall: While Acme Valley Mixed Berry is good quality, it is a one note flavor. Including some mix-in—for example, pie crust pieces, butter cookies, or chocolate chunks—would elevate this pint. If you’re hungry for a berry-flavored ice cream, this is a pretty darn good pint—smooth and rich. But it’s a crowded premium ice cream market with new, decadent flavors hitting the shelves every month. To compete and thrive, Acme Valley may need to become more innovative with their flavors.

Score: 7.5
