Chocolate Ice Cream: Rich, creamy, and smooth, with a strong milk chocolate flavor.
Gooey Marshmallow Swirls: So often we get something that’s not really marshmallow. But this is true marshmallow fluff swirl. It’s soft and pliable, not frozen. One big glob of it—see the cross section picture—and several thin swirls throughout. The swirls are too thin to add much flavor other than sweetness.
Caramel Swirls: I didn’t find much in my serving. Maybe it dissolved into the base—a common problem with caramel in ice creams. The small remnants of caramel are sweet and flavorful, and add richness.
Fudge Fish: There are at least a dozen chocolate fish in my pint. Each one is bigger than a chocolate chip. Shaped like fish. They have a milk chocolate flavor.
Overall: Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food is very sweet, almost decadent. I’m not a huge marshmallow fan, but this pint was rich enough to grow on me.
Score: 8/10.
