Description from Molly Moon’s website: “We’re proud to partner with our friends at Hood Famous Bakeshop again and to bring back Calamansi Cream Cake, one of our most popular collaboration flavors. We use Hood Famous’ homemade calamansi curd, made from the calamansi citrus—a hybrid flavor of kumquat and mandarin. We fold in big swirls of the curd into our sweet cream ice cream along with bite-sized chunks of homemade vanilla pound cake. Every bite is luscious, fresh, and irresistible!”

Sweet Cream Ice Cream/Calamansi Curd: The calamansi curd has largely combined with the sweet cream base, so I will review them together.
The base has a sweet, creamy, citrus flavor that’s well balanced—light, fruity, refreshing. The texture is smooth, not icy.
I’m not sure what a calamansi tastes like, but this pint does have a nice, mild citrus flavor to it. I see only faint swirls of calamansi curd, not the “big swirls” from the pint description. The mild citrus flavor grew on me as I ate the pint—I wanted more when I was done.
Vanilla Pound Cake Chunks: These chunks truly have the flavor and texture of pound cake with a hint of vanilla to it.
I got three huge chunks, each maybe an inch across. They are soft chunks—easy to bite into, not soggy or icy.
Some ice cream flavors have generic doughy blobs they call cake pieces, but not this pint. These are great cake chunks, flavorful and with a proper, dense pound cake texture.
Overall: A delightful, refreshing summery flavor that might be improved with a thicker calamansi curd swirl and additional pound cake chunks. Molly Moons’ blog suggests adding their lemon curd topping, which sounds like a great idea. I look forward to sampling this one again next year—with lemon curd on top. Recommended.
