Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream: A sweet, creamy base, consistent with B&J’s above average quality. I tried to isolate the base from the plentiful mix-ins, but didn’t detect much marshmallow flavor, let alone toasted marshmallow. Instead, just a pleasant if very sweet base.
Chocolate Cookie Swirls: A swirl of crushed dark chocolate cookie crumbs. The cookie wafer portion of an Oreo, crushed into thick crumb swirls, distributed pretty much everywhere in the pint to some degree. This swirl when dense and generous—and it often was—easily overwhelmed most other flavors, transforming this pint from an attempt at s’mores into a solid cookies and cream flavor. (B&J: What is a chocolate cookie doing in a s’mores flavor, anyway? S’mores consist of graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate. That’s it. No cookies allowed!)
Graham Cracker Swirls: Where is the graham cracker swirl? I didn’t see anything that looked like graham crackers in my bowl. No brown or beige swirl comparable to the black chocolate cookie swirl. Looking closely now at the picture of the open pint on my desktop, perhaps there are some graham crumbs mixed in with the chocolate cookie swirl. If so, its mild flavor got lost when mixed with the chocolate cookies.
Fudge Flakes: Small, crispy chocolate bits—rectangular slivers, a bit darker than milk chocolate. They melt in your mouth or add some crunch if you don’t pause to savor them (which I did not as a hoovered up this pint). You’ve tasted them before: those same crunchy chocolate bits used in many other B&J flavors. Enough chocolate flakes that I tasted some in most every spoonful, adding some texture and flavor to the pint.
Overall: Ben & Jerry’s Gimme S’more! advertises itself as a s’mores flavor, but it’s really just a stealth cookies and cream pint—and a pretty great one at that. For a change, I have no complaints about the mix-in ratio. The generous chocolate cookie swirl and crispy fudge flakes make this pint soar—and make me forgive and forget the complete absence of any graham cracker swirl or toasted marshmallow flavor. I frankly inhaled my portion. B&J: please just revise the label on this pint to remove any reference to s’mores—admit it’s a cookies and cream pint—and I will revise your score up by one point, and all will be forgiven. 7/10.
