Ice Cream Review Little Debbie Honey Buns

Review

Honey Bun Flavored Ice Cream: Cloying with a syrupy artificial sweetness. The texture is cheap, somewhat airy. This is not a rich, smooth, dense premium product.

Glazed Honey Bun Pieces: Bland, medium sized chunks of something lacking flavor, pastry or cake maybe, a generic carb of some kind. The chunks are hard and crunchy, like cardboard dipped in sugar glaze. A moderate amount of them.

Sweet Cinnamon Swirl: The cinnamon swirl is the best part of this pint. Unfortunately, the swirl appears only towards the bottom of my half of the pint. It has a pleasant, strong cinnamon flavor that far exceeded the quality of the rest of this pint. It’s the best of this pint and I wanted more of it to be swirled throughout, not just concentrated in the bottom.

Overall: Little Debbie’s Honey Buns ice cream is about what I expected—sicky sweet and comparable to the other Little Debbie pints I’ve sampled. The brand describes it as a honey bun flavored base with glazed honey bun chunks and a cinnamon swirl. It’s probably unfair to compare this pint to that of a premium brand when it sells for $2.50. The base is low quality and overly sweet. The base doesn’t really taste like honey buns except to the extent that honey buns taste overly and artificially sweet—to that extent, they nailed the flavor profile.

The honey bun chunks are hard and bland and do this pint no favors. But the cinnamon swirl is surprisingly enjoyable, decadent and flavorful, and I might have rated this pint higher if there were more swirl throughout and not just concentrated in the bottom of the pint. In the end, it’s better than I was expecting, maybe the best of all Little Debbie ice cream flavors, but not comparable to any premium brand. I can’t imagine getting it a second time. For a dollar more at Walmart, get a pint of Ben & Jerry’s or Haagen-Dazs and enjoy yourself. 6/10.
