Ice Cream Review Little Debbie Nutty Bars

Review

This is from a line of ice creams based on Little Debbie snacks.

Peanut Butter Ice Cream: The flavor was a mild peanut butter. I would’ve preferred a bolder flavor—and a less airy texture. Premium quality this was not. Most of the Little Debbie ice creams have been cloyingly sweet. But the peanut butter flavor seemed to reduce the sweetness of this pint somewhat. It took a long time to temper, perhaps due to the high fat content from the peanut butter.

Chocolatey Waffle Cone Pieces: These were small- and medium-sized pieces of chocolate- covered waffle cone. The chocolate tasted like a bland milk chocolate.

For the most part the waffle cone pieces were crunchy. A few seemed soft, though not soggy. The texture was like that of a waffle cone, just a bit thinner. They didn’t suggest the crunchy wafers of a Nutty Bar though.

There was an adequate amount of waffle cone in this pint, although it seemed to favor one side of the pint as you can see from the cross section pictures.

I was impressed by the quality of this mix-in from a less expensive ice cream.

Fudge Swirl: There wasn’t only one small swirl in my half of the pint, a stingy amount. It had a darker chocolate flavor than the waffle cone pieces and a texture thicker than chocolate syrup.

Overall: Little Debbie’s Nutty Bars ice cream has a great waffle cone mix-in, but fails in most other respects.

The pint description reads: “peanut butter ice cream swirled with chocolatey waffle cone pieces and a thick fudge swirl.”

The base was very airy without much peanut butter oomph and really dragged this pint down.

On the other hand, the chocolate-covered waffle cone pieces were pretty darn good for a $2.50 pint. I’m not sure what they are doing in this pint though, because they aren’t even close to the crunchy wafers found in a Nutty Bar. Perhaps it’s a necessary substitution because the wafers of a Nutty Bar would quickly dissolve into an ice cream base.

The fudge swirl didn’t help improve this pint because there just wasn’t much of it to speak of.

Too many problems for me to recommend it, even though I enjoyed the waffle cone pieces. 5/10.
