Ice Cream Review Little Debbie Star Cruch

Review

Caramel Ice Cream: More creamy than expected, but not on the level of a premium pint. The texture is airy. I enjoy caramel, but the caramel flavor here is almost too weak to detect. It’s not very sweet. Bland. Disappointing. Shrug.

Thick Fudge Chocolate Crispies: This mix-in was chocolate-covered rice crispy bits. To be clear, this mix-in consists of individual pieces of puffed rice covered in chocolate, not clumps of rice crispy. The chocolate was okay—milk chocolate with a ganache texture. It will melt in your mouth. Some of the rice crispy bits had a crunch to them, but others were soft, though not soggy. There were a good amount of the chocolate crispies mixed in. I found some on every spoonful. They were very sweet, and it was a little much by the time I finished my serving.

Overall: Little Debbie’s Star Crunch had a disappointing caramel base that lacked flavor and texture. I expect cheaper pints to have more air in the base, so I can forgive the texture somewhat. But there’s really no excuse for the lack of caramel flavor in the base here.

The chocolate-covered rice crispies weren’t bad; they were generous in amount, with a discernable chocolate-flavored coating, and a fair amount of crunch to them. Look at those cross section pics—there are quite a few chocolate crispies in there. But they would have been better if they were bigger or made up of clumps of rice crispy pieces, rather than just individual grains of puffed rice coated in chocolate.

Generally as to all of these Little Debbie ice cream pints my opinion remains the same: get a pint of Ben & Jerry’s, Haagen-Dazs, or Van Leeuwen at Walmart instead, and you’ll enjoy it more. 4.5/10
