Cocoa Ice Cream: Rich and creamy. A milk chocolate base with a subtle peppermint aftertaste. Which is to say: the peppermint isn’t overpowering the chocolate. A nice balance; refreshing from the mild hit of mint.
I’m not sure this base flavor is what was intended by Molly Moon’s. It may be that the peppermint candies on the white chocolate bark mix-in simply melted into the base. Regardless, this combination works well.
White Chocolate Bark Speckled With Peppermint Candies: Rectangles of white chocolate bark, many broken into bits, but also plenty of biggies, some about 1 inch by ½ inch in size. Look at those cross section pics. Yes, this was a great mix-in.
Sweet with a mild white chocolate candy burn. They melt quickly in the mouth. Only a subtle peppermint flavor. I taste salt on the white chocolate. I’m not sure what that is from. It’s another pleasant effect here.
The peppermint candy speckles are not very evident. I see a little red coloring smeared on the white chocolate. Perhaps most of the peppermint on the bark melted into the base.
Overall: Peppermint Cocoa was a seasonal flavor offered by Molly Moon in December 2022. Peppermint ice cream is not my go to, but this is pretty well done—a premium base that subtly balances chocolate and mint. The size and number of the white chocolate bark mix-in is the real standout of this pint, adding texture and decadent flavor. It’s a solid Christmas flavor—minty and refreshing. I hope it returns in 2023. Recommended. 8.5/10.
