Review

Milk Chocolate Base: A mild milk chocolate ice cream base. Never bitter. Not too sweet. Smooth, creamy, rich. On first taste, maybe a bit too meek. The next day: delightful. This base really grew on me.

Dark Chocolate Chunks: Those irregular Graeter’s chocolate chunks, some small, others ginormous. Each spoonful: a roll of the dice. What will the next scoop uncover? It keeps us digging in the pint, looking for the next win—that giant chocolate chunk that is the motherlode. Some sort of addictive gambling feeling to eating a Graeter’s pint. The randomness of the chocolate chunks makes the whole experience a little more fun. And the flavor of those chunks? Dark chocolate that melts in the mouth, and is worth savoring. A bolder, slightly bitter dark chocolate that contrasts well against the mild milk chocolate base. Savor some dark chocolate. Then follow it up with pure milk chocolate base. Chocolate nirvana. But, as always, we’re left wanting even more of those Graeter’s chocolate chunks.

Overall: Graeter’s Double Chocolate Chip is a flavor for the chocolate lovers. Yes, it’s a basic chocolate chocolate chip, but it’s executed so well—just like every pint we’ve tried from Graeter’s—that we can’t really fault it, except to say we’d like even more of those wonderful chocolate chunks. How about a Triple Chocolate Chip flavor, Graeter’s?
