Ice Cream Review Acme Valley Raspberry Chip

Review

Disclaimer: Acme Valley sent me a complimentary box of 10 pints to review. Thanks, Acme Valley! While the free pints provide me the opportunity for this review, Acme Valley has no control over the opinions expressed.

Pint Description from the Acme Valley Website: “Bright and tart raspberries blended with sweet cream and our famously rich chocolate chips makes for a delicious treat for those craving a fruit & chocolate escape.”

Raspberry Base: The recommendation is to let this ice cream temper for 10 to 15 minutes. Acme Valley one of the densest ice cream bases I’ve ever tasted. They describe it as “stretchy” or “taffy-like.” Yet, it’s still creamy and rich.

They add no air to the base, and they claim this helps concentrate the flavor. This base has a strong, tart raspberry flavor. It’s very fruity and refreshing, almost jam-like. It’s sweet, but not cloying. Sometimes with fruit flavors, you get iciness in the base. However, I didn’t detect any iciness here. A solid, premium fruit base.

Chocolate Chips: The chocolate in this pint is stracciatella-style. It’s mixed throughout the base, and hardens as it’s meets the cold ice cream.

In this case, they’re using semisweet chocolate, so there’s a bit of bitterness, which is a nice contrast to the sweetness of the base.

As you can see, there’s a generous amount of chocolate chips throughout the pint. Some chocolate on every single spoonful. Mostly smaller bits, but there are also a few larger chunks. The chocolate melts in your mouth if you let it. I prefer to crunch on the stracciatella myself, however.

Overall: Chocolate and raspberry are a nice contrast. Acme Valley implemented the raspberry flavor well, and I’m really getting into Acme Valley’s chocolate chips. Every pint with chocolate chips is worth a taste. Recommended.

Score: 8.5
