Netflix & Chilll’d is one of four Netflix themed ice cream flavors from Ben & Jerry’s that includes Punchline, Chip Happens, and Boots on the Moooo’n.
Base: It’s a solid peanut butter base. A pleasantly sweet peanut butter taste, but not overwhelming, not like eating peanut butter on a spoon straight from a jar of Skippy’s. This is a solid foundation on which to build a pint, flavorful but controlled, not oily or artificial.
Brownies: Big, dense, fudgy brownie chunks are everywhere in the pint, on most every spoonful, as God intended. Really, all I ask from the premium brands is: create distinctive mix-ins, and then be generous with their inclusion. You succeeded here B&J with the right kind of brownie chunks—fudgy, not dry or cakey—and the right amount of brownie chunks—lots!
Pretzel Swirls: In this pint, there were two or three globs of quite salty pretzel swirl sufficient to be distinctly tasted. Sometimes the salty in a premium pint is too restrained, too timid, but not in this pretzel swirl; you get a hit of salty from a glob of pretzel swirl here. It was a great contrasting flavor and texture on the rare occasion I found a solid collection of the swirl.
But generally, because the pretzel swirl was too diffusely spread in the base—you can see tiny bits of it throughout the base—the tiny bits didn’t really register over the peanut butter flavor, and didn’t add much texture either. I only tasted the pretzel in the larger globs. So: more globs of pretzel swirl, B&J, if you please. It would truly take this pint to the next level.
Overall: Generous fudge brownie chunks combine with a peanut butter base for an awesome combination of flavors and textures. But the pretzel swirl was somewhat sparsely distributed, preventing this pint from reaching true sweet and salty perfection. When all three flavors were present, this pint was outstanding.
