Review
Malt Ice Cream: Creamy, smooth, and sweet, with a mild malt flavor. A blank canvas that works well as a mix-in delivery system.
Chocolate Covered Pretzels: The image on the pint shows small knotted pretzels covered in chocolate. But the pint actually contains small, chocolate-covered pretzel balls. They provide a crunchy texture, sweet milk chocolate coating, and a hint of salt. Happily no sogginess is detected. The pretzel balls are about 1/4 inch in diameter. There are a moderate amount of them.

Peanut Butter Cups: The pint shows a full Reese’s peanut butter cup sized mix-in, but these are actually mini peanut butter cups about 1/4 – 1/3 inch in diameter. These do taste like normal peanut butter cups—milk chocolate with salty peanut butter center. Salted peanut butter is a nice break from the sweetness of the rest of the pint. There’s a good amount of these mini peanut butter cups—they’re more plentiful than the pretzel balls.
Brownies: Mostly square brownie chunks, about 1/4 inch across, with an almost dark chocolate flavor. The brownie texture is somewhere between brownie batter and a cooked brownie—fudgy, but sometimes gummy. A moderate amount of brownie chunks—not as common as the peanut butter cups.

Overall: Graeter’s Midnight Snack is a strong contender against Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby. It has a very similar flavor profile to Chubby Hubby—malt base, chocolate-covered pretzel balls, mini peanut butter cups, and brownie chunks. The amount of mix-ins make for a very enjoyable scoop. The result is a variety of flavors—malt, chocolate, peanut butter—and textures—smooth, creamy base, gooey brownies, crunchy pretzels—on most every spoon. And, of course, the killer flavor combo for me—salty and sweet.
This is my jam, for sure. One note: while the base is high quality, it’s perhaps not as bold a malt flavor as it could be. In the end, I would include Midnight Snack in my regular rotation if my local Walmart would stock it. This pint was part of a mail order directly from Graeter’s, so the pricing is a bit much. I may need to call the Walmart manager to make a special request to stock Midnight Snack—and there is perhaps no higher praise of a product than groveling to Walmart to stock it. Recommended. 8/10
