Ice Cream Review Graeter's Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip

Review

Peanut Butter Ice Cream: Creamy, rich, sweet, premium quality, with a mild peanut butter vibe. So mild, the peanut butter flavor has difficulty standing out against the sweetness of the base. Sometimes this just tastes like a sweet cream base, not like a peanut butter base. Will the peanut butter flavor be overwhelmed by the chocolate chunk mix-in? Uh oh.

Graeter’s Milk Chocolate Chips (Chunks): You know by this point that I love Graeter’s chocolate chunks. In this pint, there’s the typical variety of sizes, but most are just chocolate flakes. Occasionally, I get a larger chunk that is thicker. You can see one large central blob of chocolate in the cross section picture. Sad to say it but, in this pint, there was a minimal amount of chocolate chunks. Not what I was hoping over. The chocolate flavor does overwhelm the peanut butter base some times, but the actual lack of chocolate keeps this failure in check to some extent.

Overall: Graeter’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip should’ve been a 10/10. I mean, it’s peanut butter AND Graeter’s chocolate chunks: a combo destined for greatness. What could go wrong? Well, how about make the peanut butter base very mild so it doesn’t stand up against the chocolate. Yeah, that seems like a mistake. Then don’t be generous with the chocolate chunk mix-ins. Yes, every pint of Graeter’s is a chocolate chunk lotto ticket. But I did not win the $1 million dollar ginormous chocolate prize with this pint. More like $5, which doesn’t even cover the $10 cost of the pint.

So what I’m saying is: it wasn’t generous enough with the chocolate mix-ins. Sometimes the metaphor gets away from me. It’s not a bad flavor. It would’ve been great with a bolder peanut butter base and more of those big ol’ weird shaped chocolate chunks that inspired me to order 10 pints from Graeter’s website. Oh well, a pretty good pint, flavors that I always enjoy, but coulda shoulda been great. 7/10.
