Van Leeuwen’s Pint Description: “…nothing makes us happier than this Chocolate Covered Strawberry Ice Cream. Chocolate ice cream with strawberry pieces throughout. A combo typically reserved for special occasions but if you’re holding this pint, it is a special occasion. Time to break out the good silver and dancing shoes.”
This was a limited edition flavor available at Walmart in early 2023.
Chocolate Ice Cream: This ice cream base is dense, thick, and chocolatey—a milk chocolate with some tang to it, almost malty, perhaps from the cocoa liquor. The texture is smooth and creamy.
Strawberry Pieces: There are small pieces of frozen strawberries as a mix-in. Unfortunately, they’re icy. They’re small chunks, which helps make the iciness tolerable. Not many of them—the cross section pictures tell the story. They add little to nothing in terms of flavor or texture.
A strawberry jam swirl might have been a better choice. Somehow the water needs to be removed from the strawberries to prevent them from becoming ice chunks in the pint. Cooking them into a jam or jelly is one method.
Overall: The chocolate base isn’t bad. But failing to include chocolate chunks in this pint borders on criminal negligence. And the icy frozen strawberry chunks are disappointing too, flavorless. Blah. Pass on this one.
