Talenti Pint Review
Banana Caramel Crunch is one of the flavors in the Talenti “Gelato Layers” line. The package touts five layers, but there are only three elements: two layers of banana pudding gelato, two layers of pie crust pieces, and one layer of dulce de leche.
Gelato: I could smell a hint of banana when scooping the gelato. My first spoonful of banana pudding gelato had a strong but natural flavor, not overpowering, nor artificial. I enjoyed it more than expected. Being fruit-flavored, it’s a bit icy, but not unpleasantly so, and with some tempering that iciness disappears. Overall, it’s a tasty banana gelato that even someone who’s not a big fan of banana flavors will still probably enjoy, especially in combination with the other flavors in this pint.
Pie crust: Good quality. Pellet-sized, dry, firm, not particularly crunchy, but still adding nice texture, and plain pie crust flavor. Most pie crust bits are distributed around the edges of the pint, not through the middle, perhaps to give the illusion of a larger serving. I wanted more because the texture was such a nice change.
Dulce de leche: A nice thick caramel, not overly milky, and not very generously distributed in this particular pint. When there was a fair amount of caramel, it could be overcome by the banana flavor. Again, I wanted more of this mix-in, as the flavor and texture change from the base elevated the pint.
Layers: The see-through pint container is certainly impressive looking—all those layers are quite tempting. The clear pint is also a brilliant marketing strategy, perhaps the major reason for Talenti’s success. It’s difficult not to buy one of these layered pints after you take a look at them. But ultimately, when you scoop a serving, the layers get all mixed up. You end up with a typical, non-layered pint in your bowl.
Overall: A delicious pint with varied flavors and textures that’s well worth your time when compared to others in this same layered pint space, such as Ben & Jerry’s Topped, Magnum, and Häagen-Dazs.
