Base: A sweet, milky, addictive caramel base; always a little soft, easy to spoon, and surprisingly quick to melt. However, for me, not particularly salty.

Chocolate chips: The chocolate is also soft, melts in your mouth, more a dark than milk chocolate flavor. And these aren’t the standard chocolate chips one finds at the store. According to a promo video from Graeter’s explaining their 150 year old French pot process, liquid chocolate is spun directly into the base during production. The resulting bittersweet chocolate chips are of wildly different sizes, from tiny flecks to oversized, irregular mega-chunks; one such mega-chunk is pictured. With the larger sizes, the chocolate sometimes overpowers the caramel flavor. The caramel is really only apparent on the first few spoons without too much chocolate.

Overall: Graeter’s may not be quite so aspirational or exotic in its flavors as other premium brands, but this pint was executed well enough that all I can say in the end is: “More please.” With the next Graeter’s pint, to really savor the flavors, I’ll try to parcel out my serving, enjoying the taste over several days. It’s that good.
