Mint Base: A rich, smooth, dense, buttery, and boldly minty base. It captures the flavor of those semi-soft pastel mint pillow candies you would find back in the day next to the cash register at many restaurants. A milder mint flavor than that found in a typical peppermint hard candy. If you like buttermint candies but not peppermint candies then this base is for you.
White Chocolate Flecks: Tiny flecks of white chocolate are everywhere throughout the base, on every spoonful. It adds a subtle little crunch in the background, some sweetness, but not much white chocolate flavor against the overwhelming mint. I would have preferred larger white chocolate chips or chunks to add another dimension and bolder texture to this flavor, something to contrast against the mint. However, the flecks do help simulate the mild crunch of eating a buttermint candy that Jeni’s was trying to emulate here.
Overall: A buttermint candy in ice cream pint form. I do appreciate Jeni’s creativity and execution here. But while it’s a perfectly executed concept pint, it doesn’t result in a great ice cream that I would want to taste again.
