Ice Cream Review: Ben & Jerry’s Totally Unbaked (7/10)
B&J’s Totally Unbaked has delightful mix-ins, but is undercut by a lack of brownie batter and an overly mild base. The mixture of chocolate and vanilla bases is somewhat boring because both are quite mild.
Ice Cream Review: Jeni’s Pineapple Upside Down Cake (7/10)
Jeni’s Pineapple Upside Down cake is an inspired pint concept that didn’t quite come together for us. We love pineapple upside down cake, and we think an ice cream pint version would be wonderful.
Ice Cream Review: Jeni’s Salty Caramel (6/10)
Jeni’s Salty Caramel is a delicious premium base, but nothing more, not really a fully realized pint. It’s like buying a premium vanilla pint.
Ice Cream Review: Dolcezza Tramontana (7/10)
Dolcezza Tramontana is a dulce de leche delivery system, and for that we are thankful. But the chocolate pearls weren’t to our liking, reminding us of raw breakfast cereal in their crunchiness.
Ice Cream Review: Van Leeuwen Brown Sugar Cookie Dough Chunk (7/10)
Brown Sugar Base: A luxurious, creamy, dreamy base. The pint packaging states that due to the amount of egg yolks in the base—the back blurb reads “when you use twice as many egg yolks as standard ice cream…”—this is not mere “ice cream” as the powers that be define it, but instead “French ice cream.”
Ice Cream Review: Jeni’s High Five Candy Bar (9/10)
A rich, creamy, sweet peanut butter base with the aroma of a candy bar. Not the strongest peanut butter flavor. The taste is sweet on the front with a peanut butter finish.
Ice Cream review: Jeni’s Sweet Cream Biscuits & Peach Jam (7/10)
Buttermilk Base: smooth, rich, creamy, and only mildly sweet so that the slightly sour and tart buttermilk can be tasted. It adds another dimension to the pint, an effective flavor contrast well-balanced against the peach swirl and biscuit chunk mix-ins.
Ice Cream Review: Talenti Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake (7/10)
Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake is one of the flavors in the Talenti “Gelato Layers” line. The package touts five layers, but there are only four elements: two layers of cheesecake gelato, one layer of chocolate flakes, one layer of black cherry sauce, and one layer of graham cracker cookie pieces.
